Our Approach to Healing

Orca Lelum's programming is delivered through a holistic, Indigenous-led model of care that integrates culturally rooted healing and trauma-informed practice with responsive clinical supports. Indigenous ways of knowing guide how care is offered, shaping relationships, daily rhythms, healing activities, and expectations of care. Clinical services support care - but culture leads the healing.

Our services are grounded in two foundational pillars:

Culturally Rooted Care

Healing is anchored in Indigenous worldviews, Snuw'uyulh (Coast Salish teachings), land-based practices, ceremony, relational accountability, and community connection. Culture is not an addition to care - it is the foundation through which all services are delivered.

Trauma-Informed Practice

All supports recognize the impacts of intergenerational, developmental, and complex trauma. Safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment are embedded into environments, staffing models, and clinical decision-making.

Live-In Wellness Program

Orca Lelum's flagship Live-In Wellness Program has been operating since 2024. It is a voluntary, structured, immersive program for Indigneous youth 12-18 years old who are experiencing mild substance use and mental health challenges. Youth live on-site, allowing space to focus fully on healing and growth.

This program weaves Indigenous healing with clinical supports to build lasting change.
